The population of Georgia went from 8,230,161 to 9,919,945 from 2000 to 2012 for a total growth of 1,689,784. The population of the United States for that same time period went from 282,171,957 to 313,914,040 for a total population growth of 31,742,083. Georgia had a total percentage growth for those 12 years of 20.5 percent which was faster than the overall United States total percentage growth which was 11.2 over those same years. The race percentages for Georgia are shown with the table and charts below that indicate there have been changes from 2000 to 2012. The percentage of the population of white only has decreased from 62.7 to 56.2. The percent of the black only population has increased from 28.6 to 30.4. The percent of population of hispanic / mixed has increased from 5.4% to 8.9% and other/mixed races have increased from 3.3% to 4.4%.
